The Preschool Ministry of First Baptist Church is called "Discovery Zone".  We strive to provide the safe, secure, and nurturing environment that is essential for spiritual growth.  We believe that all children should be provided a chance to discover that God made them, God loves them, and Jesus wants to be their friend forever.

Discovery Zone strives to set strong foundations in the lives of our preschoolers.  These foundations are instilled through loving, caring adults that understand the importance of the preschool years.  It is our desire that every parent feels comfortable with the care and attention their child receives while at FBC-Harlingen.  Our infants and preschoolers deserve the best.

Each program activity includes opportunities for preschoolers to learn more about God’s Word through Bible stories, music, hands-on activities, crafts, and more!

Our hope is that your child will find church a fun place to be and that, one day, he or she will come to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

The nursery is an exciting place to be on Sunday mornings.  During Bible Study, our precious little ones are taught about Jesus, using the "First Look " curriculum.  First Look focuses on Bible stories, Biblical principles, and activities that help preschoolers understand what God is like.  Bible study in the nursery is fun, creative, expressive, and especially designed with preschoolers in mind.

Care is provided for children birth thru Pre-K (5 years old) during the morning worship services.

Our Discovery Zone ministry provides a Heartshapers program for our 18-month through 2 year olds from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and AWANA Cubbies for 3 and 4 year olds from 6:00-7:45 p.m.

MOPS stands for "Mothers of Preschoolers", which is a special support group that meets on a monthly basis and is designed just for mothers with preschoolers. The meetings take place on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.

Mother's Day Out is available to all children 2 months to 4 years of age.

Children in MDO are provided Developmental Playtime in a spiritual learning environment.  This is done in a loving Christian atmosphere where children’s feelings of self-worth and regard for others are placed above achievement.  The emphasis of MDO is on learning through play and on the love that Jesus Christ has for all little children.

The objectives of the program for preschoolers are to enable each child to:
    - Grow in awareness that God loves them and that Jesus is a special friend.
    - Grow in understanding and love for themselves, their families, and others in the world.
    - Grow in the ability to think, solve problems, and develop language skills.
    - Enjoy creative expression in music, art, and play.

We use a variety of Bible-based curriculum that is planned for the growth and development of preschoolers. Activities that embrace spiritual, mental, physical, social and emotional development are included under each theme.  The themes are designed to help lay a foundation for understanding God, Jesus, the Bible, the Church, self, others, and the natural world.
